Calidena is a participatory methodology developed and implemented by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and Mesopartner to stimulate quality in value chains (VC) and aims to systematically and sustainably support the improvement of the national quality infrastructure (NQI) in developing and transformation countries.

The term quality infrastructure refers to services related to metrology, standardisation, testing, quality management and to compliance evaluation - all relevant for assuring the quality of products for both national consumers and export markets.

Calidena was designed to adjust the supply of quality services to the real demand of companies, particularly SMEs.

Since 2007 Calidena has been applied in many product value chains on four continents.
